200pocket photo policy & usage

I shoot entirely digitally. My equipment consists of -
Camera: Canon 5D, 12.8MP SLR
Lens: 50mm f1.4 lens, 24-105mm L
My first camera was an Yashica Electro 35. I then went on to use a series of rangefinders and 35mm half frame cameras. I have enjoyed photography since high school. Over the years a camera was often at my side; much like the cell phone is now.
During my years in New Zealand I photographed cows and landscapes, upon my return to California - I continued my interest by photographing farms and chronicling the workplace.
I started to photograph live music in mid-2005 when I was a guest of the Dead Kennedys and documented their performance at the X-Games in Los Angeles.
In 2003 I was injured in a head on collision automobile accident in which my right hand was thrust into the center dashboard. Despite surgery and the insertion of pins which stabalize my index finger, my ability to manipulate many of the camera's controls has been dimished but my love for the art of photography has not.

When I can, I also photograph the open mic performances at McGrath's Pub in Alameda, California as well as at Beckett's Irish Pub in Berkeley.

Please consider the services offered by other gig/concert photographers; there are many talented photographers who offer similar services.
I don't recommend or endorse any particular music photographers, however can direct you to this [ link ] - a worldwide directory of gig photographers that I have collated.
Some specialize in live event photography where others are formally trained portrait/studio photographers. Each brings their unique approach to music photography as well as a variety of services to bands and musicians. I believe you will find their online portfolios both extensive, impressive and educational.
In reviewing their portfolios you will see extraordinary work which has been achieved by photographers in conditions that are both ideal and less than ideal. Their efforts are to be admired.
If you are a photographer and would like to have your name added -or- know of someone that should be - please let me know.

As I am keenly interested in portraying the humanistic, more intimate side of working artists/musicians and bands - I have always wanted the opportunity to photograph a band while they are in a recording studio.
But I am told this is private time; and requires a lot of concentration and the presence of a photographer may be disruptive.
The only band that has given me such access is Flipper. In the fall of 2006 they were most kind and allowed me to observe them in a practice studio.
I would love the opportunity to do this in the future.
If interested - just let me know.
